Service

I approach community-building the way I approach research: both are about giving people a real say in the systems they are part of. My research studies how users can shape the platform mechanisms around them; my service is about helping members shape the communities and institutions they belong to.

President (former co-lead) · School of Information Master's Association

University of Michigan · 2025–Present

Rather than centralizing events, I share organizing responsibility with members from different backgrounds, who lead activities for their own communities, while the association serves as a shared channel connecting these groups. Recognized as Student Organization of the Year at the UMSI Student Leadership Showcase (2025–2026).

Undergraduate Student Representative (Elected University Senator)

Hong Kong Baptist University · 2024–2025

Elected as the representative for the entire undergraduate student body, serving on the University Senate. To address limited information flow across departments, I established department-level online discussion groups reaching several thousand students, and coordinated them into a unified channel for gathering and consolidating student concerns. I brought these aggregated perspectives into institutional governance discussions. Recognized with the HKBU Outstanding Student Leaders Award (2024–2025).

Activity Lead & Communications Officer

Social Service Association, Hong Kong Baptist University · 2022–2023

Planned and ran a wide range of volunteering activities — including rural volunteer teaching in Yunnan, mountain clean-ups, a blood donation drive, and animal shelter work — coordinating logistics, volunteers, and partner organizations end to end. I also managed the association's outreach across its social media channels to grow participation. This was where I first learned to organize community activities in practice.
